The General Directorate of Customs, in cooperation with the American Chamber of Commerce in Albania (AmCham), organized today the Business–Customs Forum, a sustainable platform for dialogue between the customs administration and the business community aimed at addressing current issues and strengthening cooperation.
The Director General of Customs, Besmir Beja, presented the strategic vision of the Customs Administration in support of European integration, emphasizing the importance of fully aligning customs legislation with the EU acquis communautaire and advancing the digital transformation of services. He highlighted that the modernization of information technology systems and interoperability with European Union systems are key pillars for a more efficient administration, driven by data and risk management.
The Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce, Neritan Mullaj, welcomed the structured dialogue with the Customs Administration and emphasized the importance of this forum as a practical instrument for addressing issues affecting business activities. He underlined the need for continuity in communication and further improvement of procedures in order to foster a more stable and competitive investment climate.
The Chair of AmCham’s Tax and Customs Committee, Alketa Uruçi, presented the key issues addressed during 2026, stressing the importance of handling them in a structured and sustainable manner to ensure stability for businesses.
Representatives of the business community acknowledged the efforts of the Customs Administration in the digitalization of services, reduction of procedural processing times, enhancement of transparency, and improvement of institutional communication, considering this cooperation an important factor in facilitating trade and increasing economic predictability.
The discussions also covered progress in the implementation of the Common Transit System (NCTS) with the European Union, which represents an important step towards the modernization of transit procedures, greater transparency, and trade facilitation.
The Customs Administration invited AmCham member companies to apply for the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) status, a mechanism that enhances reliability, provides customs simplifications, and creates tangible advantages for economic operators engaged in international trade.
