The EU receives documentation from the Albanian Customs Administration about Chapter 29 “Customs Union” (Published on 03/10/2025)

A significant step forward in Albania's path to EU membership was taken when the Albanian Customs Administration formally submitted to the European Commission the complete set of papers needed for "closing benchmarks" under Chapter 29 "Customs Union".

The administration generated and submitted the following as part of this procedure, which required remarkable and coordinated work:

· The Legislative calendar and tables of concordance with the EU acquis;

· Main strategies of the administration (business, human resources, training);

· Measures to increase the integrity and performance of the customs structure;

· National multi-annual plan for IT systems and measures for interoperability with EU systems;

· Information on the ratification of the Protocol to the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control;

· Annual report “Green Paper – Customs 2024 and Priorities 2025”, published for the fourth consecutive year.

The Albanian Customs Administration remains fully committed to fulfilling all of its responsibilities under Chapter 29, to guarantee legislative approximation, bolster administrative capabilities, develop digital customs systems, and expand collaboration with the EU in the fight against illegal trade.
