The General Director of Customs, Genti Gazheli, participated in the forum "CUSTOMS AND BUSINESS in 2023", organized by the American Chamber of Commerce.
The focus of the meeting was the discussion on concrete facts and figures which show that business-customs relations have improved significantly over the last few years, but of course there is always room for further improvements towards modern customs in EU or US standards.
The Head of Customs, Gazheli presented the important developments in the digitalization of the customs services, facilities for business, new applications which will be presented in real time, but also aspects of business-customs relations which are at a very positive stage.
During this Forum, a number of topics were discussed, such as valuation methods or "references", which, taking into consideration the sensitivity of their use by Customs, as well as the WCO recommendations for increasing valuation standards, GDC has taken organizational measures intending the reduction of their use as much as possible.
"For the period January-May 2023, the highest figure of transaction utilization was recorded at 97%, confirming the realization of one of our priorities in the business facilities strategy", said Gazheli.
Mr. Gazheli estimated that many of the issues that the business had, already they have been solved thanks to the coordination of the two Administrations, Tax-Customs.
The Director of Customs emphasized the process of modernization and digitization of the Customs Administration as a very important one.
"I am convinced that information technology systems are the most efficient instrument in simplifying, facilitating and reducing the cost of business, but also in the fight against evasion and corruption, said Gazheli, adding that we currently offer 100% of online services, adding 4 new applications, which today will be presented to you in real time to see in action".
The Executive Director of ACHC, Neritan Mullaj, appreciated the cooperation with Customs as the institution with the highest rating in the business confidence index, as well as the commitment of the Customs Directorate in solving the requests of the members of the American Chamber of Commerce. The Head of Customs also invited all enterprises which adhere to ACHC to apply for the status of the "Authorized Economic Operators”.
