The increasing of cooperation and co-ordinating activities through information exchange between countries will make more efficient the fight against the illegal trafficking and human beings trafficking.
At the invitation of the Maritime General Secretariat, part of the Cabinet of the Prime Minister of France, the General Director of Customs, Belinda Ikonomi, participated in the annual Mediterranean Coast Guard Forum and visited the Marseilles Inter-Regional Customs Directorate. The Forum was attended by military and civil authorities operating in the Mediterranean Sea.
The Forum analyzed the current situation in the Mediterranean Sea and emphasized the cooperation, coordination of actions and information exchange with the main focus the fight against illegal trafficking and human beings trafficking. Mrs. Ikonomi also visited the Inter-Regional Customs Department, headquartered in Marseilles, where among the other things, she was introduced with the activities and techniques of the French Customs Enforcement Structures in the fight against narcotics trafficking and smuggling of cigarettes, which is becoming more and more problematic for French Customs and wider. With high interest was the Information Intelligence System of Goods at the Port of Marseille, where all the operating structures in the port are connected and exchanging real-time data between them, significantly affecting the processing time of the goods and in strengthening the national security.
