On July 22nd 2014 it was signed by General Director of Customs and DG TAXUD Director the "International Agreement" between the Republic of Albania and the European Commission for participation in Program "Customs 2020”.

Subsequently, by Law No 184/2014, dated 24.12.2014 it is ratified the Agreement between the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania and the European Union for participation in Customs 2020 Program starting from 1st of April 2014 to 31st of March 2020.

The overall objective of the Program is to support the functioning and modernization of the Customs Union in order to strengthen the internal market through cooperation between the participating countries, their Customs Authorities and their officials.

Participation in Program "Customs 2020" will continue to have an impact on the strengthening of cooperation with the other EU participating countries of this Program. It serves as an important tool to establish a network of professionals from different countries of EU who will provide to our Administration specific technical knowledge and exchanging of expertise in: identifying, developing and implementing the best practices in all areas of Customs processes.

This Program is also providing the preparation of potential candidate countries for accession through the exchange of experiences and knowledge between the Customs Administrations of their countries. Participation in this Program is seen as a supporting tool of our application for EU membership.

Participants in this Program (including the previous Program Customs 2013) from the "Candidate Countries and Potential Candidates" are Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, Montenegro and Albania since April 2013.
